MySQL 8.x is not fully backwards compatible with MySQL 5.7, so at this time, we do not support MySQL 8.x, due to potential breaking changes for websites.
Keep in mind, if the activated WordPress, Joomla, etc. theme and all activated WordPress plugins or Joomla extensions, etc. are not compatible with MySQL 8.x, then the website will break, which is a huge issue for a substantial number of members.
Note: We plan to add support for MySQL 8.x in the second half of 2026, but this requires new, separate servers, and migrating existing members, since MySQL versions cannot be easily mixed on the same server.
In the meantime, we recommend making sure WordPress core, theme, and plugins are all compatible with MySQL 8.x. Keep in mind, many older WordPress themes and plugins are not compatible with modern versions of PHP and/or MySQL.
